Construction of the Macey House originally began in the United States during the colonial period in Charleston, South Carolina just before the revolutionary war. The original owner, John Randal Macey, was a loyalist who supported British rule. With construction of the house still unfinished, John Macey left Charleston when the war began. The house was later completed by Macey's son, Trevor Macey. Today, the Macey House house is treasured as one of the oldest houses of it's kind in the historic district of Charleston. Sadly, most of the original furnishings were lost during the civil war, when the Macey family possesions were shipped to Columbia, SC in anticipation of General Sherman's conquest of Charleston. As fate would have it, Sherman turned north to Columbia, sparring Chaleston but losing her treasures. After many years of neglect, the salt air of this coastal city had caused the house to severly decay. However, it has been recently renovated and furnished in a comfortable and modern style. Come spend a relaxing weekend in this charming historic Bed and Breakfast in the heart of Charleston's oldest sector.
