Bibi-Gul (Flower Lady) is a traditional older Afghan woman living in the village of Paghman in the early 1970. She is wearing a printed cotton peron (dress), white rayon tumbon with white on white Kandahari embroidery on the bottom, and a blue chadarie, now called a "burqua". Like many women of her time she would pull the chadarie over her face only if she was among men she did not know...she would wear it as shown if she were out with her own family or in her own village. On her feet she is wearing black rubber "kaloushes", a very practical and popular in a place style where streets and roads are not paved and one often encounters which mud, snow or rain.
