Lobster Bay was built in 1875 for the Gough family. Mr. Gough was a big wheel in the lobster industry in Maine and made his fortune with his patented lobster traps. Mrs. Gough was big in the knitting world and knitted sweaters for lobsters. (She was later committed to a hospital for the rest of her life.) Mr. Gough lived in this house until 1924 when he decided to move to Antarctica and live with the penguins.
