This house was the setting for the long-running TV series, The Waltons, about a large family struggling through the Depression and WWII. It's often forgotten that the series was spawned by a TV movie called The Homecoming: A Christmas Story based on the novel by Earl Hamner, Jr. which aired on Christmas Eve 1973. As the snow falls on Walton's Mountain somewhere in Virginia, Olivia waits for husband John to come home from his job in the city. The growing storm and news of a bus accident add to Olivia's worries. There is also the worry that John will spend his wages on moonshine and forget to bring food and gifts for his 7 children. Eldest son, John-Boy sets out to find his father, facing new experiences and responsibilities as he struggles with his ambition to become a writer. Each of the children have their own challenges and wishes as they wait for their father's homecoming with their mother and grandparents.
