Created for: The Sims 3
Enjoy the summer, simmers, because Winter is Coming! This is the last defense in the North against everything Beyond the Wall; in your hands Castle Black faces great glory or certain destruction! A stronghold fit for your medieval sims willing to rough it out in a frigid climate, cramped rooms with few comforts, and even less variety in color schemes--so take the oath and wear the black, and enjoy this latest Game of Thrones homage!

LONG EXPLANATION: I based Castle Black on the tv series footage, but tried to stay loyal to the official book descriptions as well--in other words: setting myself up for utter failure. I made sure to include the Common Hall and that frikkin incredibly complicated staircase outside that literally had me in tears making--I HATE CFE; it's too hard and I *don't* understand it! But one thing I try to avoid in builds is for the dining room to be on a different floor from the kitchen, since sims are stupid with dining, especially together. I had no idea where the kitchen was located in the TV series set, but it didn't matter since I totally had no room for it, other than directly under the Common Hall, so I had to improvise that. Another thing I had to give up was Hardin's Tower, were Jon's room was. The rest of the Nights Watch slept in a totally different tower, Flint Barracks, but I had to squeeze Jon's room into the Barracks next to Sam's room since the layout I was following left no room for me to add Hardin's Tower. Sorry, Wildling Women recruits. ;) And there's no King's Tower for distinguished guests, either, but I did leave one floor vacant above the Rookery, so feel free to appoint it however you like. One room I stuck mostly to was the Lord Commander's Keep, where Sir Mormont slept up until Jon frikkin burnt the joint down in his fight with the Other. But another room I improvised was Maester Aemon's, though stuck like a burr to making sure it was 1 floor below the Rookery where all the ravens were kept, even though I moved the Rookery to the other side with the Barracks. I think the Rookery is my favorite part of the entire stinkin build; this lot drove me crazy way too many times--I should have used a 64x64 lot, but oh well.
As for the grounds, the Courtyard turned out pretty okay. I think I like it more covered in snow than without it. The Armory I love; it stays frosty enough without being completely exposed, and everything gets a nice icy patina in winter that I squeed over. The Forge was a joke--it's just a glorified fireplace, lol. But that wedge lift? Omg, it's terrible to look at, I know, but blame EA for not giving us cage lifts or more industrial elevators. And I wasn't sure which side the Switchback Staircase was supposed to be on, and it really has no function, other than as an overlook point. And the Wall itself? It's pretty much inaccessible and useless--if we could make tunnels instead of trenches in the terrain I could have dome more with it *sucks teeth*. There's a bunch of 'Silent Towers', but no Lance Tower. I did add the Vaults, though! At first I wasn't going to, until I realized I needed room for a Nectary beneath the Pub, so I added the Library Vault, too.
That's pretty much it. I forgot to add no-brainers like telescopes and dominoes to keep the Brothers entertained, but oh well--Winter's coming; bone up on your archery and SimFu; ain't no time to be stargazing, lol.
