Hi Amy, the reason why I put it there was that it suited the design of the room back then.
In England you don't have washing machines in the separate room for too reasons - either your house is not having a laundry room or in bathrooms you are not allowed to have an electrical plug bigger than for a toothbrush/shaver. It's for the safety reasons.
